love, death and the devil

Personal experiences inspired the artist to create this exhibition.
The show “Love, Death and the Devil” features oil paintings and punctured cardboard displayed in lit boxes.
A serial approach to a particular theme is characteristic of Rucker’s works. The figurative as well as abstract oil paintings and punctured pieces of cardboard (pierced by an awl) are combined to form a series. Within a photorealistic manifestation, the artist toys with symbolic and personified representations of love, death and the devil. The artist frequently depicts himself, assuming different roles.
These abstract works allow for reflection. The spectrum of the paintings varies from dark shadows to expressive lights. Particularly such aspects of love, as gentleness and tenderness….. are depicted. Contrasting elements of photo realism and abstraction or of dark versus brightly colored works create unexpected tension.
